Halfway Home

June 12, 2008

Image074

I am coming home

Almost on the way there,

I am coming home.

Image077

I am nervous

I am scared

Rush of emotions is running through my head

What do i do when i come home?

AM supposed to be EXCITED

but am not

Why?!

Is it because of freedom restrained?

or change another change

Everything is here and packed and ready to go

But i am bad at moving on and letting go

8 hour bus ride to London

Maybe that will clear my head

London to Cambridge 2 hours

And im finally there

Leaving Cambridge for home on the 18th

I set foot on Negaraku, on 19th

Hope till then, my head and heart is cleared

Packing Progress!

June 7, 2008

Sadly/Greatly I am not living at WXH anymore

What was sad and what was great:

What’s Sad:

1. One whole table can be booked by me last time when i first arrived. Like seriously. Maybe i was just super quiet, like a tortoise ( green one) who don’t dare to talk to different tortoise coloured shells :) ( werid analogy)

2. I am going to miss my friends here, those who are staying here especially AL!, Z, G, JJ and the international  table* my clique :)

3. Believe it or not the food. Well basically the food here is 7/10 some days are below average, but should not complain, as i saw on news today about famine in Utopia. But the think i don’t like is that food that is not eaten gets thrown away

4. I dont like weird noises when i am studying in my room, dont like drunk ppl hanging about in the corridors and making FREAKING loud noises and those who are inconsiderate

5. I am going to miss the nice scenery outside my window, the KXG park around the place, church i go to which is only 10 mins away

What’s Great:

1. I am glad i made new friends from different places and nationalities

2. No hassle with bills

3. In my new place next year, i will be able to cook. ( Gosh, its sooo going to be exciting, the cooking channels here are amazing) Stefanie going to be a chef instead of a doc? JKJK.

4. it will be nearer UNI, i can wake up late, run down university avenue to the med school. HAHA. ( I am a morning person!) and the library and gym will be very nearby

5. No need to pay for transport to UNI! :)

Packing Progress:

Image078

I managed to pack my books (ALOT), my desk lamp, my desk drawers stuff, and printer..

Today i watched sex and the city with CK, how i did that? :) well its basically loading the video online and we count down 3,2, 1 play ( Skype is our communicator line) kekekee.

Emotional

Somehow, i am scared of coming home, but i dont feel excited, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!

Today was my last time i went to mass, will be going to visit my bro soon! :) and attend a ball, man i look fat in the dress. :(

Need to exercise..

Memoirs of a First Year Med

June 3, 2008

Listening to my music collection on ITunes now, after a very very looong time, and its the last time of yoghurt and apple for lunch!

Exams are over, 1/5 of becoming a doctor, the journey is 1/5 completed.

I would like to thank:

My Family, CK, AL and my friends all out there GL, JJ :) and my fellow medics ( who are currently in PJ Champs) ahah

It started off with orientation in september, the new concept of learning based on Problem Based Learning, seemed interesting compared to boring old lectures. But, there was sometimes some dispute on how much are we suppose to know? The limits of taking down what is important and what is not and meeting all the objectives after 10 PBLS.

There were Labs, Fixed Resource Sessions and Plenaries (Lectures) and not to mention Vocational Studies

Block 1 to Block 6 = approximately 50 PBLS in total.

Block 1 - My Rating : 7/10

It was based on systems, emphasizing and recalling facts that we had learnt in A levels, Biology seemed so important ( Wonder why i took Physics in A Levels LOL), started with the very basic of all which is cells and skin, from skin it when to blood pressure and so forth into other (many) physiological processes and to transplantation. So fast LAH! And so much to remember as well!

Coursework: based on H.O.S, i did not do that well for this block’s coursework, was getting into the adjustment of things i suppose

Block 2 - 9/10

I really loved this block, First experience of dissection of a cadaver, smelly formaldehyde which made you really hungry and disgusted with anything which looked like subcutaneous fat! Trust me, its disgusting. But bearable.

Coursework: Osteoporosis, gladly i did better in this coursework :) A :)

MILE: Gosh, i got a “good” Mark but it was okay.

Block 3 - 7/10

Began to do following PBLs in advanced, so there will be more time for revision ( it did help!)

It was kind of a distraught month at first since the end of december last year, everything just fell apart for a few weeks, but i managed to pull my self through

It was mainly on public health, made me sign groan and wonder why why must we learnt epidemiology, but the last few pbls were interesting and more scientific based :) Asthma and Lung Cancer

Coursework : A too :)

Block 4 : 7/10

Coronary Heart Disease, Reproduction, etc which was really interesting and alot of factual information.

Coursework: B ( The feedback mark sheet i got back was 2 pages long >.&lt ;)

The most thing i enjoyed was the community diagnosis project, where i had to work with my VS group to do a presentation and a community diagnosis of Moodiesburn :) Was in charge of the presentation :) we did well as a team too!

IMG_0418

Block 5: 6/10

Alot of processes of BIOCHEMISTRY. GROAN! but it was good once i understand the concepts and pathways and not to mention enzymes as well. Diabetes Diabetes Diabetes

Block 6

The shortest block of all, Malaria, Pneumonia, Hypersenstivity Type 1 , Polio etc

It was more like doctor - knowledge PBLS :)

The Exam

2 Papers, 2 hours Each, total 200 marks!

and Stages of Sexual Response. SWEAT!

Great :) ITS ALL OVER NOW :)

Its getting closer, to close for comfort for Exams & PEE

May 31, 2008

had to blog, so much stuff inside me if i kept in stefanie will go pop.

Time waits for no man ( WOMAN)

I have broken down my remaining hours, till by arrival in Bute Hall/Randolf Hall into hours.. in a time table spread on one sheet..

Image078My library work area..

Image077 This is crazy. but progressive.. Late hours of the night and we hours of the morning

Nervous Breakdown … Almost!

Its so soon, exams are on tuesday, almost had a nervous breakdown but thanks to my consciousness, i took out my Bible, and found a lovely prayer by St Ignatius of Loyola

O Lord Give me the grace so that all my intentions, all my actions and all my operations may be directed solely to the praise and service of your Divine Majesty…

I had to read it a few times to calm my self down.

Bad Luck. Fool

After the gym, while looking at flash cards while exercising on the cross ramp machine

I did do a silly thing today = fool, my washing clothes detergent bottle was not closed properly, ( which i did not know off), and on my way down to the laundry room and in front of the washing machine, looked and saw. !@$#%^ my whole laundry back was soaked with the liquid. Furiously stupid mediocre act!! So i had to use 3 whole machines for one pile of clothes which is oversoaped ( im letting out all my rage due to me on my blog!)

On my computer, realised the audio was not working, sound card problem ! @#%$^&* ( actually the symbols dont mean any bad words maybe its EEEEEEEEAAAA or something like tat :) ) This symptom ( medically speaking which my dear friend CK had also caused his com to have a blue screen. talk about computer transmitter disease that leads to cyanosis of the LCD screen? GOSH.

Reformating after exam, Fingers cross of no cyanosis of LCD screen before tuesday!

Praying Hard.

P.E.E.

What are you going to do after exams?” AL

I had not thought about it yet, dead seriously, well i will think maybe later but not just yet. there is a list at the back of my mind somewhere.. :) going to help AL with her OSCE ( be her patient) ahha :) and maybe pack as i wont be staying at WXH next term.

Summer, somehow im dreading it and looking forward to it ( Post Exam Emotions) which is PEE for short.

And at the bus stop on friday waiting for the bus i saw :

Is this a sign of Post Traumatic Stress Due to Exams / or PEE

Image076

Gosh, i wish my exams were over now, so much free time lah.. this person >.<, on the grass somemore, sleeping wor..

The Sun is great to express our _______________________ (YTIDUN)

Girl Interrupted No More

Studying block 4.4 Contraception, Just realised the same scenario had exactly the same name as my neighbour ( hint: where weird noises happen in the middle of the night…) amazingly what a coincidence, luckily she has moveout or gone home. so no more interruptions.

Blogs

I have read so many new posts on blogs, esp what women want, and have some things to reply, so await my late / belated reply soon. KC! and Ern Sheong

And Nuffnang wild competition :)

Cam-posing, Boredom

Image082

Practically Bored… Panda Eyed!! Fringe which i cut a few weeks ago has grown so fast, and just realised i could smile :) :) :) :)

Baby Pool

And yes, some people have a good splashing time not in the swimming pool, but a inflatable pool outside B block, and yes we do have swimsuit fashion parade at dinner that day.

And one of the plot was to Pop the pool :) haha

And the Question is?

Should I skip PBL on Monday? ( Yes, classes run right up to exam time, med life - no life - but life long learning which is till exams)

And i miss my mum and family at home, where mum will cook my favourite food during exams and have a huuug once in a while when she comes into my room when i s tudy..

SPM was tedious, A levels was OMG, but i made it, First Year Med ( Do you best and God Will do the rest = My Motivation)

And Good luck to everyone !!

And Back to revision..

Who’s to say, Who’s to judge

May 3, 2008

Somehow. i know that i will be facing this when i am back home in the summer, SIGH. but no matter what who’s to say?!

“Who’s To Say” - Vanessa Carlton
Stand up straight
Do your trick
Turn on the stars
Jupiter shines so bright
When you’re around they tell us slow down,
We’re too young you need to grow
The speed’s the key
And they don’t know who we are
And who’s to say that we’re not good enough?
And who’s to say that this is not our love?

Mother don’t tell me friends are the ones that I lose
‘Cause they’d bleed before you
And sometimes family are the ones you’d choose
It’s too late now
I hold on to this life I found
And who’s to say we won’t burn it out?
And who’s to say we won’t sink in doubt?
Who’s to say that we won’t fade to gray?
Who are they anyway? Anyway they don’t know
And you say we’re too young, but maybe you’re too old to remember
And I try to pretend but I just feel it when we’re together
And if you don’t believe me, you never really knew us
You never really knew
You and I, packin’ up my room, we feel alright
But we’re not welcome, soon

We’ll be drivin’, ’cause they don’t know who we are
Who’s to say we won’t stay together?
Who’s to say we aren’t getting stronger?
Who’s to say I can’t live without you?
Who are they anyway? Anyway they don’t know

And you say we’re too young, but maybe you’re too old to remember
And I try to pretend, but I just feel it when we’re together
Who is to say?
And who is to say?
And who are they anyway?
Stand up boy, I shine so bright when you’re around
