June 22, 2008

I finally have to admit: It is great to be home, my family! my bed! my room!

Friday

Woke up about 12 pm.

Made a few phone calls to : Mayshi ( May shi called me first lol), Jun Ai and tried calling Wai Kwan! ( who was still in the shower)

Went out for a prefect gathering at the curve, met up with ES, KC, JL, SM, LP etc :P it was quite fun, and the caesar salad rocked ( was still full due to the plane food and lunch..)

Elephant Trip 001 Snowie ( The Cat) Fat Fat…

Elephant Trip 006 Elephant Trip 004

Unknowingly, my dad said that i will be going for a trip to see an elephant sanctuary on saturday ( the thing which came to my mind at first was: smelly, big dung (from elephants).. but it was not bad ( but due to me jet lagging i only had an hour sleep.. tossing and turning in bed) and i am down with the good ol flu. ( sorethroat) and to think of it my mum asked me have i been sick since i have been in glasgow, how many times? ( 2 times i think) but now in Msia is 3 :) haha

I learnt that there are new pokemon shows out ( maybe i’m outdated) but it was on during the whole bus journey to Kuala Gandah ( 2 hours bus ride - POKEMON Grr), instead of pikachu i choose u, i would say Pikachu, I don’t like you! :S

But still, on my pokemon (lovable) side, i still find togepi super cute :) To Gwe.. Pee! :)

Back to the elephants: Elephants display emotions, and they really do!

Elephant Trip 022 Elephant Trip 020 Elephant Trip 017

I wonder what the elephants are saying:

From Left:

1. Aw, there there, i think you should not have reached out too far beyond the eletrical fence my dear (Elephant on the left)

2. Maybe i should not have ( Right elephant holds left elephant trunk)

3. Give me back my banana you fatso! ( Right elephant)

9. Dont push me..

10. Check her out >.<

Facts about elephants:

They have the largest brain, likes bananas, there are 2 types ( african and malaysian ), they eat alot!

Cambridge Trip

June 20, 2008

Thursday, Before Leaving Glasgow

I met up with GL, PR, GG for lunch and we went to the Bothy Restaurant near Byres Road, and i passed GL a luggage bag for her to help me keep over the summer after that i went home to continue packing and do some last minute watching of Scrubs :) and slept for awhile.

and then after locking my luggage bag and packing my laptop

At on;ly 8.45 pm, I realised i misplaced a key which i (stupidly) put into the bag i gave GL ( which contained a bunch of unused locks and keys), so then i panicked, asked AL for help ( THANKS SO MUCH) as well as GL :)

The Amazing race to Byres Road, Bus no. 18 was delayed for the ride back and forth and i had to be at the station by 10.30 pm! Gosh, so with the help of AL, who met me infront of tesco with my luggage bags and GL, i made it on time for the bus to cambridge.

AL was very sweet and helpful to accompany me all the way there to the bus station without her i would not know what to do.

Conclusion: Stefanie = Stupid.

Thursday, Friday Long Bus Ride

Cambridge 002

It was a really extremely long bus ride down to cambridge, about 10 hours in total, 4 hours of sleep. And very tiring although it was just sitting all the way. I did listen to my ipod, drank water and used the eye - mask thingy to block out light and the airplane cushion :) It was dark so, no reading, nothing much to do on the bus ride, except sleep. Arrived in London for 2 hours, and i think personally it is better to travel in a pair, as in, why are toilets one flight of stairs down ( as i have 2 suitcases) so to make sure i have all my luggage and all, i had to lug my luggage bags down to the toilet ( Buffed up) and back up the stairs again.

Friday: Arrival at Cambridge

Arrived about 10.30 am, was completely exhausted and needed the toilet ( toilets in a bus is rather… unhygienic and disgusting really), my bro was already waiting for me then we went to his place :) Made lunch which was curry chicken and some veg from sainsbury’s (which was really really nearby), after that had a nap and then went for ballroom dancing practice for the May Ball

And for a very long time, i slept extremely early ( bro pressured me to) from 9 pm to 9.40 am the next day.

Saturday: Malaysian Society Garden Party

had breakfast. which was a sandwich and bought some yoghurt.

After breakfast, did some laundry and helped bro by following him around, took some pictures of the area :)

Cambridge 006 Cambridge 008 Cambridge 009

Cambridge 016Cambridge 028 Cambridge 030

Took random shots, we were rushing to the garden party, so my photos were rushed as in using the antishake photo mode :)

Nice turn out though :) :)

Cambridge 019 Cambridge 018

We then arrived at the party, it had, quite alot of food ( Chicken curry, acar, satay, drumsticks, strawberries and chocolate fountain, marshmallows, drinks)

there was also a giant size jenga, 4 in a row game.. :)

Cambridge 045 Cambridge 044 Cambridge 042 Cambridge 036

Cambridge 038 Cambridge 039 Cambridge 040 Cambridge 041

Guess who is in the second pic from the left? : Nicholas Liew ( Oh well, he says he wants to meet us DJians when he is back in Msia ! as he says he would like to catch up with everyone and go mamak!)

Food:  rice and curry chicken with acar, satay, chocolate fountain with strawberries and bananas, burger patties, etc.

Came back to bro’s room, watched a few episodes of house, after that watched Indiana Jones and went to meet bros friends to play silly games* ( Mafia the whole night long)

Sun 15 Jun

Bro’s Excerpt ( email to mum)
Go to church in the morning, then lunch in Hall followed by punting in the afternoon (with snacks and juices from Sainsbury’s). Then went to dinner at a friend’s place (the same one who wanted to cook Malaysian a few weeks ago) and made dumplings, lettuce, Estonian meat cake (!), had more strawberries/melons/pineapple with ice cream, came back, went to another friend’s room and played silly games. Then watched Hairspray (again on Stefie’s computer). Slept at 3 am.

Punting : it was difficult LOL :) and using a long pole!

May Ball 006 May Ball 008

Mon 16 June (MAY BALL)
The queue to the ball was very long. A parade of people best dressed in gowns and suits ( Dress code was black tie: bow tie, and plaited white collar long sleeve shirt and suit. Fancy :)

May Ball 024 May Ball 025 May Ball 032

After that, ( my HEELS was killing me, fashion hurts) and then we headed for the food, which was Greek and Turkish : Salmon/Swordfish kebabs) and so much more which was amazing.

The fireworks was so BEAUTIFUL! :) really enjoyed that

May Ball 074  May Ball 068 May Ball 070 May Ball 071

there was also oysters, a hypnotist ( this show was awesome and hard to believe really! but true), classical music, scottish dancing : ceilidh, and bumper cars plus inflatable hot air balloon. there were dance floors, drink bar, i had champagne and some orange gin ( tasted)

May Ball 107 May Ball 044 May Ball 052

Ball was from 9pm to 6 am ( stayed there the whole time) and there was breakfast as well! :P

May Ball 050 May Ball 042
Tue 17 June
Sleep! woke up at 3pm :) cooked lunch which consisted of black pepper chicken and veg ( tasted great)

18 June

Left cambridge for london and from london to heathrow ( another amazing race as the bus almost arrived late at the station) RUN RUN.

I am coming home.

Image077

I am nervous

I am scared

Rush of emotions is running through my head

What do i do when i come home?

AM supposed to be EXCITED

Why?!

Is it because of freedom restrained?

or change another change

Everything is here and packed and ready to go

But i am bad at moving on and letting go

8 hour bus ride to London

Maybe that will clear my head

London to Cambridge 2 hours

And im finally there

Leaving Cambridge for home on the 18th

I set foot on Negaraku, on 19th

Hope till then, my head and heart is cleared

Packing Progress!

June 7, 2008

Sadly/Greatly I am not living at WXH anymore

What was sad and what was great:

What’s Sad:

1. One whole table can be booked by me last time when i first arrived. Like seriously. Maybe i was just super quiet, like a tortoise ( green one) who don’t dare to talk to different tortoise coloured shells :) ( werid analogy)

2. I am going to miss my friends here, those who are staying here especially AL!, Z, G, JJ and the international  table* my clique :)

3. Believe it or not the food. Well basically the food here is 7/10 some days are below average, but should not complain, as i saw on news today about famine in Utopia. But the think i don’t like is that food that is not eaten gets thrown away

4. I dont like weird noises when i am studying in my room, dont like drunk ppl hanging about in the corridors and making FREAKING loud noises and those who are inconsiderate

5. I am going to miss the nice scenery outside my window, the KXG park around the place, church i go to which is only 10 mins away

What’s Great:

1. I am glad i made new friends from different places and nationalities

2. No hassle with bills

3. In my new place next year, i will be able to cook. ( Gosh, its sooo going to be exciting, the cooking channels here are amazing) Stefanie going to be a chef instead of a doc? JKJK.

4. it will be nearer UNI, i can wake up late, run down university avenue to the med school. HAHA. ( I am a morning person!) and the library and gym will be very nearby

5. No need to pay for transport to UNI! :)

Packing Progress:

Image078

I managed to pack my books (ALOT), my desk lamp, my desk drawers stuff, and printer..

Today i watched sex and the city with CK, how i did that? :) well its basically loading the video online and we count down 3,2, 1 play ( Skype is our communicator line) kekekee.

Emotional

Somehow, i am scared of coming home, but i dont feel excited, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!

Today was my last time i went to mass, will be going to visit my bro soon! :) and attend a ball, man i look fat in the dress. :(

Need to exercise..

M.I.A

June 6, 2008

I have been absent for quite awhile ( actually not really, about 2 days la )

What have I been up too?

Besides watching SCRUBS, and sleeping and going to the gym.

I have taken out Year 2 Stuff to read, but failed, and decided to continue watching scrubs and sex in the city. ( Stefanie is delighted so many episodes to watch which fulfills her thirst of boredom!)

Yesterday, i went to wagamama ( a fusion restaurant) with GL, JL and M , the foooooood, was erm okay. MALAYSIAN FOOD STILL ROX MY SOX. It was raining.. :(

But the cheese cake was good! :) Did u know they had chocolate wasabi cake! ( I must try that the next time, and next time i am just going to order desert)

Anyways, enjoyed the company with my friends and then went to the library to meet AL ( who is really hard at work), Man, when i am year 2 next year, am soo gonna cry, they only end next week! T.T Hang in there AL! :)

Today i went to the botanic gardens ( my first time) after a long time here, met up with GL and CY ( My Study Group Buddies) :) and then we headed to subway and Greggs and got some food and headed of to eat in the botanic gardens, there was an interesting statue there, a naked man with a monkey on his lap. quite interesting, should have taken pictures

and there were plenty of pigeons

Pigeons here fly very low, as they are fat and sooo cute. And hopefully no poop falls on our heads :S

009

The far left pigeon was being courted by two male pigeons, as the male pigeons were dong that dance and coo-ing around the female pigeons. Here, the pigeons do not starve! ( They feed on crumbs from subway subs, greggs, etc)

011 010

And the remarkable us! :) lol ( Camera, self timer mode, on a pringles )

And i had something interesting in my camera (outdated photos)

Presenting the most shiny apple i ever saw!

001 006

And i got big boxes to move all my stuff out! HELP!

And good tips from wikihow ( which was good as it helped me on wearing makeup last time..)

  1. Pack one room at a time if possible, and start with items that are least often used.
  2. Write down a list of everything you are packing, in particular if it’s valuable. Books, cds, expensive clothes. Also, take note of which item is in which box.
  3. Use sturdy boxes. Fill the box to the brim and seal the lid. That way, you can easily stack boxes on top of one another.
  4. Tape the bottom of the box securely so that it doesn’t give way.
  5. Never fill a box until it is so heavy that you can’t lift it safely. Spread the heavy items over a few boxes. Balance boxes with lighter items like towels or soft toys. Pack the lighter items on top.
  6. Use bubble wrap or newspapers when packing fragile items. However, newsprint may smudge so use newspaper selectively. Clean paper can be purchased cheaply from moving supply stores. Boxes should be marked “Fragile” and “This side up” to prevent mishandling.
  7. Label each box clearly and which room it belongs to. Write on the sides of the box as well.

Pack a separate box of essentials you may need for the first night at your new house. Include items like toiletries, toilet paper, bottled water, snacks and a change of clothes in case you cannot unpack everything in time.

Was suppose to go to coopers tonight a pub and restaurant, but did not go.. :( because… need $$$ :)

Cheerio :) Back to Scrubs!!!!!!

Memoirs of a First Year Med

June 3, 2008

Listening to my music collection on ITunes now, after a very very looong time, and its the last time of yoghurt and apple for lunch!

Exams are over, 1/5 of becoming a doctor, the journey is 1/5 completed.

I would like to thank:

My Family, CK, AL and my friends all out there GL, JJ :) and my fellow medics ( who are currently in PJ Champs) ahah

It started off with orientation in september, the new concept of learning based on Problem Based Learning, seemed interesting compared to boring old lectures. But, there was sometimes some dispute on how much are we suppose to know? The limits of taking down what is important and what is not and meeting all the objectives after 10 PBLS.

There were Labs, Fixed Resource Sessions and Plenaries (Lectures) and not to mention Vocational Studies

Block 1 to Block 6 = approximately 50 PBLS in total.

Block 1 - My Rating : 7/10

It was based on systems, emphasizing and recalling facts that we had learnt in A levels, Biology seemed so important ( Wonder why i took Physics in A Levels LOL), started with the very basic of all which is cells and skin, from skin it when to blood pressure and so forth into other (many) physiological processes and to transplantation. So fast LAH! And so much to remember as well!

Coursework: based on H.O.S, i did not do that well for this block’s coursework, was getting into the adjustment of things i suppose

Block 2 - 9/10

I really loved this block, First experience of dissection of a cadaver, smelly formaldehyde which made you really hungry and disgusted with anything which looked like subcutaneous fat! Trust me, its disgusting. But bearable.

Coursework: Osteoporosis, gladly i did better in this coursework :) A :)

MILE: Gosh, i got a “good” Mark but it was okay.

Block 3 - 7/10

Began to do following PBLs in advanced, so there will be more time for revision ( it did help!)

It was kind of a distraught month at first since the end of december last year, everything just fell apart for a few weeks, but i managed to pull my self through

It was mainly on public health, made me sign groan and wonder why why must we learnt epidemiology, but the last few pbls were interesting and more scientific based :) Asthma and Lung Cancer

Coursework : A too :)

Block 4 : 7/10

Coronary Heart Disease, Reproduction, etc which was really interesting and alot of factual information.

Coursework: B ( The feedback mark sheet i got back was 2 pages long >.&lt ;)

The most thing i enjoyed was the community diagnosis project, where i had to work with my VS group to do a presentation and a community diagnosis of Moodiesburn :) Was in charge of the presentation :) we did well as a team too!

IMG_0418

Block 5: 6/10

Alot of processes of BIOCHEMISTRY. GROAN! but it was good once i understand the concepts and pathways and not to mention enzymes as well. Diabetes Diabetes Diabetes

Block 6

The shortest block of all, Malaria, Pneumonia, Hypersenstivity Type 1 , Polio etc

It was more like doctor - knowledge PBLS :)

The Exam

2 Papers, 2 hours Each, total 200 marks!

and Stages of Sexual Response. SWEAT!

Great :) ITS ALL OVER NOW :)

Its getting closer, to close for comfort for Exams & PEE

May 31, 2008

had to blog, so much stuff inside me if i kept in stefanie will go pop.

Time waits for no man ( WOMAN)

I have broken down my remaining hours, till by arrival in Bute Hall/Randolf Hall into hours.. in a time table spread on one sheet..

Image078My library work area..

Image077 This is crazy. but progressive.. Late hours of the night and we hours of the morning

Nervous Breakdown … Almost!

Its so soon, exams are on tuesday, almost had a nervous breakdown but thanks to my consciousness, i took out my Bible, and found a lovely prayer by St Ignatius of Loyola

O Lord Give me the grace so that all my intentions, all my actions and all my operations may be directed solely to the praise and service of your Divine Majesty…

I had to read it a few times to calm my self down.

Bad Luck. Fool

After the gym, while looking at flash cards while exercising on the cross ramp machine

I did do a silly thing today = fool, my washing clothes detergent bottle was not closed properly, ( which i did not know off), and on my way down to the laundry room and in front of the washing machine, looked and saw. !@$#%^ my whole laundry back was soaked with the liquid. Furiously stupid mediocre act!! So i had to use 3 whole machines for one pile of clothes which is oversoaped ( im letting out all my rage due to me on my blog!)

On my computer, realised the audio was not working, sound card problem ! @#%$^&* ( actually the symbols dont mean any bad words maybe its EEEEEEEEAAAA or something like tat :) ) This symptom ( medically speaking which my dear friend CK had also caused his com to have a blue screen. talk about computer transmitter disease that leads to cyanosis of the LCD screen? GOSH.

Reformating after exam, Fingers cross of no cyanosis of LCD screen before tuesday!

Praying Hard.

P.E.E.

What are you going to do after exams?” AL

I had not thought about it yet, dead seriously, well i will think maybe later but not just yet. there is a list at the back of my mind somewhere.. :) going to help AL with her OSCE ( be her patient) ahha :) and maybe pack as i wont be staying at WXH next term.

Summer, somehow im dreading it and looking forward to it ( Post Exam Emotions) which is PEE for short.

And at the bus stop on friday waiting for the bus i saw :

Is this a sign of Post Traumatic Stress Due to Exams / or PEE

Image076

Gosh, i wish my exams were over now, so much free time lah.. this person >.<, on the grass somemore, sleeping wor..

The Sun is great to express our _______________________ (YTIDUN)

Girl Interrupted No More

Studying block 4.4 Contraception, Just realised the same scenario had exactly the same name as my neighbour ( hint: where weird noises happen in the middle of the night…) amazingly what a coincidence, luckily she has moveout or gone home. so no more interruptions.

Blogs

I have read so many new posts on blogs, esp what women want, and have some things to reply, so await my late / belated reply soon. KC! and Ern Sheong

And Nuffnang wild competition :)

Cam-posing, Boredom

Image082

Practically Bored… Panda Eyed!! Fringe which i cut a few weeks ago has grown so fast, and just realised i could smile :) :) :) :)

Baby Pool

And yes, some people have a good splashing time not in the swimming pool, but a inflatable pool outside B block, and yes we do have swimsuit fashion parade at dinner that day.

And one of the plot was to Pop the pool :) haha

And the Question is?

Should I skip PBL on Monday? ( Yes, classes run right up to exam time, med life - no life - but life long learning which is till exams)

And i miss my mum and family at home, where mum will cook my favourite food during exams and have a huuug once in a while when she comes into my room when i s tudy..

SPM was tedious, A levels was OMG, but i made it, First Year Med ( Do you best and God Will do the rest = My Motivation)

And Good luck to everyone !!

And Back to revision..
