Cambridge Trip

June 20, 2008

Thursday, Before Leaving Glasgow

I met up with GL, PR, GG for lunch and we went to the Bothy Restaurant near Byres Road, and i passed GL a luggage bag for her to help me keep over the summer after that i went home to continue packing and do some last minute watching of Scrubs :) and slept for awhile.

and then after locking my luggage bag and packing my laptop

At on;ly 8.45 pm, I realised i misplaced a key which i (stupidly) put into the bag i gave GL ( which contained a bunch of unused locks and keys), so then i panicked, asked AL for help ( THANKS SO MUCH) as well as GL :)

The Amazing race to Byres Road, Bus no. 18 was delayed for the ride back and forth and i had to be at the station by 10.30 pm! Gosh, so with the help of AL, who met me infront of tesco with my luggage bags and GL, i made it on time for the bus to cambridge.

AL was very sweet and helpful to accompany me all the way there to the bus station without her i would not know what to do.

Conclusion: Stefanie = Stupid.

Thursday, Friday Long Bus Ride

Cambridge 002

It was a really extremely long bus ride down to cambridge, about 10 hours in total, 4 hours of sleep. And very tiring although it was just sitting all the way. I did listen to my ipod, drank water and used the eye - mask thingy to block out light and the airplane cushion :) It was dark so, no reading, nothing much to do on the bus ride, except sleep. Arrived in London for 2 hours, and i think personally it is better to travel in a pair, as in, why are toilets one flight of stairs down ( as i have 2 suitcases) so to make sure i have all my luggage and all, i had to lug my luggage bags down to the toilet ( Buffed up) and back up the stairs again.

Friday: Arrival at Cambridge

Arrived about 10.30 am, was completely exhausted and needed the toilet ( toilets in a bus is rather… unhygienic and disgusting really), my bro was already waiting for me then we went to his place :) Made lunch which was curry chicken and some veg from sainsbury’s (which was really really nearby), after that had a nap and then went for ballroom dancing practice for the May Ball

And for a very long time, i slept extremely early ( bro pressured me to) from 9 pm to 9.40 am the next day.

Saturday: Malaysian Society Garden Party

had breakfast. which was a sandwich and bought some yoghurt.

After breakfast, did some laundry and helped bro by following him around, took some pictures of the area :)

Food:  rice and curry chicken with acar, satay, chocolate fountain with strawberries and bananas, burger patties, etc.

Came back to bro’s room, watched a few episodes of house, after that watched Indiana Jones and went to meet bros friends to play silly games* ( Mafia the whole night long)

Sun 15 Jun

Bro’s Excerpt ( email to mum)
Go to church in the morning, then lunch in Hall followed by punting in the afternoon (with snacks and juices from Sainsbury’s). Then went to dinner at a friend’s place (the same one who wanted to cook Malaysian a few weeks ago) and made dumplings, lettuce, Estonian meat cake (!), had more strawberries/melons/pineapple with ice cream, came back, went to another friend’s room and played silly games. Then watched Hairspray (again on Stefie’s computer). Slept at 3 am.

Punting : it was difficult LOL :) and using a long pole!

Memoirs of a First Year Med

June 3, 2008

Listening to my music collection on ITunes now, after a very very looong time, and its the last time of yoghurt and apple for lunch!

Exams are over, 1/5 of becoming a doctor, the journey is 1/5 completed.

I would like to thank:

My Family, CK, AL and my friends all out there GL, JJ :) and my fellow medics ( who are currently in PJ Champs) ahah

It started off with orientation in september, the new concept of learning based on Problem Based Learning, seemed interesting compared to boring old lectures. But, there was sometimes some dispute on how much are we suppose to know? The limits of taking down what is important and what is not and meeting all the objectives after 10 PBLS.

There were Labs, Fixed Resource Sessions and Plenaries (Lectures) and not to mention Vocational Studies

Block 1 to Block 6 = approximately 50 PBLS in total.

Block 1 - My Rating : 7/10

It was based on systems, emphasizing and recalling facts that we had learnt in A levels, Biology seemed so important ( Wonder why i took Physics in A Levels LOL), started with the very basic of all which is cells and skin, from skin it when to blood pressure and so forth into other (many) physiological processes and to transplantation. So fast LAH! And so much to remember as well!

Coursework: based on H.O.S, i did not do that well for this block’s coursework, was getting into the adjustment of things i suppose

Block 2 - 9/10

I really loved this block, First experience of dissection of a cadaver, smelly formaldehyde which made you really hungry and disgusted with anything which looked like subcutaneous fat! Trust me, its disgusting. But bearable.

Coursework: Osteoporosis, gladly i did better in this coursework :) A :)

MILE: Gosh, i got a “good” Mark but it was okay.

Block 3 - 7/10

Began to do following PBLs in advanced, so there will be more time for revision ( it did help!)

It was kind of a distraught month at first since the end of december last year, everything just fell apart for a few weeks, but i managed to pull my self through

It was mainly on public health, made me sign groan and wonder why why must we learnt epidemiology, but the last few pbls were interesting and more scientific based :) Asthma and Lung Cancer

Coursework : A too :)

Block 4 : 7/10

Coronary Heart Disease, Reproduction, etc which was really interesting and alot of factual information.

Coursework: B ( The feedback mark sheet i got back was 2 pages long >.&lt ;)

The most thing i enjoyed was the community diagnosis project, where i had to work with my VS group to do a presentation and a community diagnosis of Moodiesburn :) Was in charge of the presentation :) we did well as a team too!

IMG_0418

Block 5: 6/10

Alot of processes of BIOCHEMISTRY. GROAN! but it was good once i understand the concepts and pathways and not to mention enzymes as well. Diabetes Diabetes Diabetes

Block 6

The shortest block of all, Malaria, Pneumonia, Hypersenstivity Type 1 , Polio etc

It was more like doctor - knowledge PBLS :)

The Exam

2 Papers, 2 hours Each, total 200 marks!

and Stages of Sexual Response. SWEAT!

Great :) ITS ALL OVER NOW :)

B109(I)

April 25, 2008

Prologue

” Reaches into pocket and pulls out her phone looking at the contact list, she thinks should i give this number a ring? it has been ages and i wonder how are they doing”

Beep.

You have one new message

” hi ya :) hope you are having a great day today, see ya later at dinner”

Reads the message and smiles, Pondering slowly, looks back at that number* the one which i was suppose to call.

It has been 2 years, no contact, should i go back and face my memories my pass of denial or just close the cover on what has happened and never dig it up again?”

It’s coming back to me again and again, at the back of my mind…

Opens my itune player and the first song which plays is ” Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol”

Hums the tune to myself, in my sole room of B109

Looks at the clock, damn* and hour more to dinner, stares back at all the scattered books on my table, looks and studies the page.. hopefully things go in as i read about this chapter on skin.

And Dreams are dreams suppose to be real and is it unusual to have dreams in your sleep 5 times in a row?

Am disturbed, very disturbed……………………
